Jubilee Choir HistoryThe Jubilee Choir is the oldest choir at Brookland Baptist. The Church was founded in 1902 and Mr. Saul Koon formed the Jubilee Choir in 1915. Mr. Koon taught musical notes known as shape notes to choir members. The late Deacon Eddie Mickens was elected president and leader of the choir and served for Forty-six years. His son, the late Deacon Horace Mickens, succeeded his father as choir president and leader. Other past presidents of the Jubilee Choir includes the late Deacon Julius Brown, Sister Wilhelmenia P. Golston and the current President Deacon Donald Turner, Sr.
MissionThe Jubilee Choir strives to enrich the worship experience by continuing to sing traditional and endearing spirituals, to touch lives and to assist in leading souls to Christ. The Jubilee Choir also preserves and celebrates the historical heritage of acappella and shape note singing.
