The Sonrise Chorale of Brookland Baptist Church was organized in January 1985 upon the request of Reverend Dr. Charles B. Jackson, Sr. and under the direction of Ms. Valerie Jones-Hudgins. The main purpose of the choir was to render music during the 8:15am worship services. The music provided during the services was harmonious, contemporary gospel.
With the love of God, the determination to succeed, and the gifts of praise, the choir began serving February 1985 with the following members: Dyretta M. Fashion, June V. Lewis, Trica (Reid) Washington, Karen Starks, Sam Jones, Synaya (Robinson) Jones and Sharon Tanner-Moore.
In 1986, Ms. Beverly Rhoden became the new director of the choir and brought to it a "new life" and a "new style". As we grew in faith, the message of each song found new meaning in our lives. With this new beginning, the membership has grown to more than 100 members.
The choir's commitment to "serve the Lord" remains steadfast and unmovable. It is because of this commitment that we continue to press toward the mark of the High calling.
