Activity/Event: Baked Goods to Afghanistan – November 2011
In November of 2011 God blessed the Outreach Ministry in collaboration with the hospitality and Adult Sunday school teams to send baked goods to the soldiers located in Afghanistan. We were fortunate that our dear sister Lorraine Montgomery was based in Afghanistan during this time and her input helped with the logistics. We received feedback from the soldiers of how grateful they were to receive the baked goods.
Program: Veterans Recognition of Veteran Day - Sunday November 13, 2011
In honor of all of the veterans a short program that included presentation of the U.S. and South Carolina Flags by Superintendent Linette Brown and Reverend Yolanda Gillen. In addition, Deacon Pharr gave a beautiful sincere presentation in recognition of the veterans. Refreshments and fellowship occurred following the services.
Activity/Event: Christmas Care Package to Afghanistan – December 2011
In December of 2011 the Outreach Ministry and the Adult Sunday School team sent baked goods, toiletries’ and other personal items to the soldiers in Afghanistan. Once again we received feedback from the soldiers of their appreciation.
Activity/Event: Gift Certificates for Groceries – December 2011
Military/Veterans Outreach Ministry provided grocery gift certificates to eight veteran families during the Christmas holidays.
As stated in 1 Thessalonians 1: 3 “remembering without ceasing your work of faith and labor of love and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, before our God and Father”
The first year was a learning experience and an opportunity to grow. We accomplished our overall goal which was the desire to acknowledge our own veterans and reach out to others as well. Our 2011 initiatives were a demonstration of the love, respect and honor that we feel as a church body for those who faithfully labored to protect our country.
